GUIDANCE DIAMOND SHAPES EMERALD

BOLD - MODERN - GLAMOROUS

Emerald diamond cuts were some of the very first diamond cuts in the world. Its long facets and large table are a window into its mesmerising beauty. However, they were not standardised until 1940 because of their closeness with other diamond cuts. This cut is perfect for coloured gemstones as well as high-quality diamonds. An emerald cut diamond is commanding. Instead of the brilliance and sparkle you’re used to with round or cushion diamonds, you’ll see flashes of light in the emerald cut.

Emerald diamond cuts represent unification, as they are well proportioned and bring out the pure brilliance of a diamond. Also known as "step cut" because of the layered faceting, the emerald cut possesses unique appeal with symmetrical sparkle.

Their long body and octagonal shape is unlike any other shape. Emerald cuts, are most commonly rectangular, can also be square. Emerald cut diamonds look best in higher clarities because their large table and lack of brillianteering makes it difficult to mask inclusions. Because of this, we recommend a VS1 clarity grade or higher.

Emerald Diamond Guide

Emerald cuts, like other fancy shapes, do not have a cut grade assigned by GIA. With fancy shapes people have different preference on the shaping and faceting so GIA will only grade their Polish and Symmetry. Below are recommended ranges for table and depth for the respective cut grade.
